Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to review and integrate the various intervention methods on the pain and range of motion of the knee and hip joint in the elderly with degenerative arthritis and osteoarthritis.

Method: Thirty studies between 1999 and 2008 were reviewed in Keris & Riss4u.net. Searching key words was elderly and joint pain.

Result: Heat, muscle electric stimulation, aromatherapy massage, Capsicum plaster, stretching techniques, aqua exercise program, complementary and taping therapy were applied. Research variables were pain, muscle function and muscle power, range of motion, static balance, sleep disturbance, depression, self-efficacy and quality of life.

Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, future direction of development of nursing intervention program were suggested.
